Chronic Pain Physio in Sheffield.

You're not broken. The pain is real. There's a way through this.

If you've been in pain for months or years, you've heard everything.

"Nothing showed up on the scan."
"Something showed up, but it's just degeneration."
"It's wear and tear."
"You'll have to manage it."
"It's just stress."
"Try yoga. Try Pilates. Try resting. Try not resting."
"It's all in your head."

None of those are answers. Most of them are excuses for not having one.

Here's what's usually closer to the truth.

Persistent pain isn't always damage. The body is more sensitive than it should be. The nervous system has learned to amplify signals that, in a less protective state, wouldn't reach pain at all. Tissues can be fine and the experience can still be brutal.

That's not made up. That's how nerves and brains actually work when pain hangs around for months.

It also means the dial can come back down.

That's the whole job.

01What we do

The work, in four phases.

This is the long road. There's no magic. But there's a path.

01 / CALM the system

Hands-on work. Gentle specific movement. Sometimes dry needling. Settling the protective response down enough that we can do real work.

02 / RESTORE confidence in movement

Showing your body that ranges, positions, and loads it's been avoiding can be safe. Slowly. Specifically. Without flaring everything.

03 / BUILD capacity

Strength work. Programmed loading. Real progression. The body becomes more tolerant of life. The dial keeps turning down.

04 / RETURN to your life

Running. Lifting. Sleeping. Working. Parenting. Whatever it is you've stopped doing or started fearing. We programme the path back to it.

You'll know what we're doing and why at every stage. Read more about the method.

02What we won't do

An honest list.

  • Tell you it's all in your head
  • Promise to "cure" your chronic pain
  • Push you into pain to "toughen you up"
  • Keep you coming forever
  • Hand you a generic exercise sheet
  • Use scary language about your scan
  • Pretend we know exactly when it'll fully settle, because no one honest can
03What you might recognise

The patterns repeat:

  • Back pain that scans don't fully explain
  • Sciatica that comes and goes for years
  • Persistent neck and shoulder tension
  • Knee or hip pain that flares unpredictably
  • Tendon pain that hasn't settled
  • Pain that lingered after surgery
  • Pain that came back stronger after a course of physio elsewhere
  • Pain that's been written off as stress, anxiety, or "just how you are now"

If any of that sounds like your last five years, this is the page for you.

FAQ Chronic pain questions

Common questions.

Can chronic pain actually get better?

Yes. Not always to zero, but most people make significant progress with a proper plan. The work is calming the system and rebuilding capacity at the right pace.

Is it safe to exercise with chronic pain?

Generally yes, with the right load and progression. Total avoidance tends to make sensitivity worse over time.

Do I need a scan first?

Usually not. Most chronic pain doesn't require imaging. If a scan would actually change what we do, you'll be told.

How long until I notice a difference?

Some people feel a meaningful shift in 4 to 6 sessions. Persistent pain often needs longer support, spaced out as you progress. The first session usually gives a realistic timeline.

Will hands-on alone fix it?

No. Hands-on creates a window. Long-term wins come from rebuilding capacity. You need both.

I've had pain for ten years. Is it too late?

No. It takes longer to shift, but the same principles apply. Plenty of people with decade-long pain make real progress.

Can you work alongside my GP or pain consultant?

Yes. Happy to share notes or fit alongside whatever else you've got going on.
